No one told me that just writing about the gadgets I like or wish I had would ultimately earn me the perk of having these same gadgets sent to me to keep or used for a period of time. That wasn’t the goal when I set out to talk about a topic I’m fond of. I just simply want to talk about my passion, and share any knowledge I had with anyone who wanted to listen. There wasn’t even a real way for me to know if people was listening/reading. Just an open journal of sorts.

Who knew later this writing would get a official term called Blogging, and that it would become a big deal. Who knew that as I wrote, people would listen and read, and enjoy what I talked about. Who knew companies who visit my little old site and determine I was influential enough to want to send me their products, so I’d talk about it and others would know about it.

But that is indeed what happened. I wrote about gadgets I liked and people listen. Companies took notice and thought I was influential. Other people saw what I was doing and wanted to be a part of it, now there are 13 of us, and we have our own site G Style Magazine. I no longer see products and wish I could have them or play with them for a little while, I can call/email up the companies and have them sent over. I never sugar coat anything either. If your products sucks, best believe I’m going to say so.

So for the last 6 years I’ve have been reviewing all the products that I thought were stylish, trendy, and fashionable. I have been happy with this, but G Style always was and will continue to be a movement. We’re more than just consumer electronic, we tech yes, but tech has an ever evolving definition. So finally this month G Style Magazine has reached a new level. No longer do we just cover consumer electronics, but this month G Style will covered for the first time some consumer vehicles. Yes I was actually sent a Lincoln MKS and MKX to drive this month, to test out and review the sound system in the vehicles. This is truly a first for us here, so I’m making it a big deal. I’ve received a lot of products over the years, some on loan for 2 weeks to a month, but never I have taken possession of a vehicle for a few days. This right here is #Winning! Yes little old me, and my little old site were deemed influential enough for Lincoln to send us a car to use in hopes that we would talk about their vehicle. I think I’m going to expand on that now and see what other vehicles we can review. Because while G Style started off as completely consumer electronics, there are plenty of other types of tech that have style and fashion qualities. A car definitely being one of them.

So I bet you might be wondering how my experience with the car was, or how was the sound system. Well for that information, be sure to check out G Style Magazine for our first ever vehicle review!

I’ll be chronicling sort of a style journal to see how well the HP Veer looks with what I have on. It is all black, so it should match with most items, but you never know. So be sure to check on here, as well as on Twitter (@jasonlanderson) for little bits of info about this HP Veer and what I use it for. Currently I think I’ll use it for bite size interactions! :o)

Lately I’ve been on an trying to get back into my healthy eating and exercise routine. I haven’t workout again yet but have started with breakfast. I normally would go to McDonald’s and get a Egg McMuffin and orange juice. It even two of them. But recently I tried this new Fruit and Maple oatmeal that started offering.

I must say it quite good. The small cut pieces of apple took some getting use to, but overall it was good. Now a two dollars I could probably just buy my own oatmeal but this is a phased back to that. Now my morning breakfast consists of the Fruit & Oatmeal from McDonald’s and orange juice from the Snack shop in my work building. Not a bad way to start the day.

So yesterday I was at a Burger King and I was eating some fries there. Burger Kings fries are just nasty. Recently Wendy’s went back and redid their Fries and it is much better now. So that got me thinking about French Fries and Smartphone OS systems. Don’t ask me why lol

When you think about it, Burger King really needs to redo their receipt. Burger King fries right now are like the Blackberry OS. By mindshare McDonald’s would be like the Apple iOS platform. Wendy’s would equate to Palm with WebOS and Microsoft finally with Windows Phone 7. Now that Wendy’s has finally made some better fries, that leaves Burger King. Burger King’s french fry receipt has been the same for a long time now and with all the others, it is now time for them to innovate or get left behind lol. So this would best describe Blackberry right now.

And before anyone says anything, I haven’t forgotten Android. Android would be similar to any other place, diner, or restaurant that serves french fries. There are many different types, sizes, and ways it is made. Some are high end and and taste great, some are only mediocre, and then there are some that are just nasty.

So that sums up my theory that french fries are like Smartphone OS platforms! lol

So last week I was on vacation and I took the family to Virginia Beach. Since I would be taking a route I wasn’t familiar with, I decided to load up Google Navigation Beta on my Samsung Captivate. Before that though I had to find some kind of holder to hold the Captivate in the Dashboard. Not a easy task as the only real places I could get one was online. With shipping it wouldn’t get here in time, so I found a universal hold & made due with that.

I must say I was quite impressed with Google Navi Beta and my Samsung Captivate. On the Samsung end, there has been quite a lot of talk about GPS issues on the Captivate and Vibrant. Mines got a GPS lock and for like 95% of the time I had no issue getting a GPS lock.

Google Navigation was flawless whenever I had a GPS lock. Turn by turn directions was right on point, rerouting accurate, and I love when I could check the traffic view. This especially came in handy on the way back to NYC. We hit a bump in traffic in Philly and I was able to see how long it would last.

Also like how it would turn the map from light to dark based about the time, and the information of how long we was from our destination. I would definitely be using this from now on as my main car GPS device!

How fitting is this too. I’m a Blackberry lover and it would be only fitting to get capture is a review about that device. It seems Josh T, while do a review took a screen shot of Blackberry 6 new feature Social Feeds.

Social Feeds puts all of your social activities into one place. RSS feeds, Twitter, Facebook, Yahoo Messenger, Window Live Messenger, and I think a couple more. That is me on Twitter letting Laura know she forgot a female in tech when I got capture. Too cool! Ok enough geeking out lol.

So recently I have been writing content weekly for Laptopmag.com as apart of a new weekly series they called “GStyled“. This came about out of a partnership to bring the flavor we have at G Style Magazine to Laptop Mag.

It begin back at CES 2010 (so glad I went thinking back) at the It Won’t Stay In Vegas party. I met a bunch of people there including K T from Laptop Mag. Everyone exchanged cards and then went our separate ways. Following all of those meetings, I took it upon myself to send everyone a little email, just express how it was great to meet them and all. This sparked the process that has resulted in this partnership that we have now.

This is a big deal for me as I’m a fan of Laptop Magazine and used to always read their printed magazine on the regular, since I was 17. Back then I would of never thought I’d be writing for them, let alone doing so in a deal with something of my own creation. Also truth be told in the very earlier days of G Style Magazine before we went to the WordPress format, Laptop Magazine was one of my research materials for cool stuff to talk about. So each week I stop by the Laptop Magazine office, where they show me all these cool (sometimes ugly) Laptops, Mobile phone, and other gadgetry. Then I write an article giving my “GStyled” opinion on these products.

I’ve seen some very cool things since we started on this and they for whatever reason still like what I do, cause they keep having me come back lol. Shout out to Avram who loves my Laptop book bag by BUILT NY lol.

One of my goals for this year is to extend the reach of G Style Magazine and spread our brand awareness. We’ve had a ton of growth since last year and we definitely have great content. I know we have a great concept as it has been told to me by whoever I tell what G Style is about too. So the goal is to get our name out there more through partnerships and cross promotion with other very cool sites. Laptop Magazine was the beginning and I can’t wait to work with more people! So when you get a chance, support Laptop Magazine, support G Style Magazine, and check out my column called GStyled on their site.

So I was curious in the Sprint Overdrive 3G/4G Hot Spot device for maybe CES 2011. I was about to go to a store to ask some questions for it when the little chat live agent window popped up. I just wanted to ask a simple question of do they have month to month plans for it like Verizon Wireless does for their MiFi device. Instead I got this….

James: Hi! I’m a live Sprint product specialist. Are there any questions I may help answer for you today?
You: Yes. I have a question about your Overdrive 3g/4g mobile hotspot device
James: Sure, what questions can I answer for you?
You: Can you use it on a month to month plan?
You: And if so, how much would the device be to purchase it
James: I would be happy to help you with overdrive information.
James: Let’s move this chat and make it a window of its own. It will be out of the way and I can stay with you in case you have any questions or any concerns. Just click on the “Yes” button below and we can continue.
You: Hello?
James: Thank you for moving the chat.
James: Just to check, are you currently a Sprint customer?
You: No
James: Thank you for your interest in Sprint.
James: I would like to inform you that you need to sign two year contract..
You: No there would be no month to month option like Verizon Wireless has?
You: I meant *so there would be no month….
James: Our data plans include unlimited GPS, whereas AT&T and Verizon charge an additional fee every month.
James: We’re faster in more places than T-Mobile. That’s faster in download and upload speeds and we have stronger signal strength in over 100 markets.
James: We’re also the first to launch a 4G data network in the USA.
You: Ok. Thank you for the information. Thank you for your help in this matter.
James: All our wireless broadband devices connect to the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network. They also remotely access the Internet, as well as audio, video and data applications, at DSL-like speeds.
You: I’m done for today. Thank you for all of your help.
James: When coupled with a data plan, Sprint’s broadband devices make it easy to connect to the Internet. All you need to do is pull out your laptop, plug the card in, connect and you’re ready to go! You’ll even have instant internet access as you travel across the states!
James: The Sprint Mobile Broadband Network is the nation’s fastest and largest wireless data network. It covers more than 164 million people!

Frustration? Anger? Embarrassment? None of the above. I feel like I’ve let someone down.

There was no limitation in Star Trek. Riker didn’t have to have a hotspot set up in order to chat from Farpoint Station. James Bond doesn’t have to locate a Starbucks to talk to Q. Batman doesn’t…Batman doesn’t do anything he doesn’t want to. Because it was 70 years ago, Dick Tracy had the entire AT&T network all to himself to make video calls.

“But hey, it’s got a better screen.”

I agree
