Who knew later this writing would get a official term called Blogging, and that it would become a big deal. Who knew that as I wrote, people would listen and read, and enjoy what I talked about. Who knew companies who visit my little old site and determine I was influential enough to want to send me their products, so I’d talk about it and others would know about it.

But that is indeed what happened. I wrote about gadgets I liked and people listen. Companies took notice and thought I was influential. Other people saw what I was doing and wanted to be a part of it, now there are 13 of us, and we have our own site G Style Magazine. I no longer see products and wish I could have them or play with them for a little while, I can call/email up the companies and have them sent over. I never sugar coat anything either. If your products sucks, best believe I’m going to say so.

So for the last 6 years I’ve have been reviewing all the products that I thought were stylish, trendy, and fashionable. I have been happy with this, but G Style always was and will continue to be a movement. We’re more than just consumer electronic, we tech yes, but tech has an ever evolving definition. So finally this month G Style Magazine has reached a new level. No longer do we just cover consumer electronics, but this month G Style will covered for the first time some consumer vehicles. Yes I was actually sent a Lincoln MKS and MKX to drive this month, to test out and review the sound system in the vehicles. This is truly a first for us here, so I’m making it a big deal. I’ve received a lot of products over the years, some on loan for 2 weeks to a month, but never I have taken possession of a vehicle for a few days. This right here is #Winning! Yes little old me, and my little old site were deemed influential enough for Lincoln to send us a car to use in hopes that we would talk about their vehicle. I think I’m going to expand on that now and see what other vehicles we can review. Because while G Style started off as completely consumer electronics, there are plenty of other types of tech that have style and fashion qualities. A car definitely being one of them.

So I bet you might be wondering how my experience with the car was, or how was the sound system. Well for that information, be sure to check out G Style Magazine for our first ever vehicle review!

It begin back at CES 2010 (so glad I went thinking back) at the It Won’t Stay In Vegas party. I met a bunch of people there including K T from Laptop Mag. Everyone exchanged cards and then went our separate ways. Following all of those meetings, I took it upon myself to send everyone a little email, just express how it was great to meet them and all. This sparked the process that has resulted in this partnership that we have now.

This is a big deal for me as I’m a fan of Laptop Magazine and used to always read their printed magazine on the regular, since I was 17. Back then I would of never thought I’d be writing for them, let alone doing so in a deal with something of my own creation. Also truth be told in the very earlier days of G Style Magazine before we went to the WordPress format, Laptop Magazine was one of my research materials for cool stuff to talk about. So each week I stop by the Laptop Magazine office, where they show me all these cool (sometimes ugly) Laptops, Mobile phone, and other gadgetry. Then I write an article giving my “GStyled” opinion on these products.

I’ve seen some very cool things since we started on this and they for whatever reason still like what I do, cause they keep having me come back lol. Shout out to Avram who loves my Laptop book bag by BUILT NY lol.

One of my goals for this year is to extend the reach of G Style Magazine and spread our brand awareness. We’ve had a ton of growth since last year and we definitely have great content. I know we have a great concept as it has been told to me by whoever I tell what G Style is about too. So the goal is to get our name out there more through partnerships and cross promotion with other very cool sites. Laptop Magazine was the beginning and I can’t wait to work with more people! I just logo my G Style logo and love being able to brand products I use with the logo. As you can see from the picture, I have a custom G Style Magazine Blackberry theme made by Tony of Cockyculture.com and I love that theme! I literally haven’t stopped using it since I installed it. If you know me well, you know I love changing my themes, but I can’t bring myself to leave this one!

Now with the G Style logo on these speaker tags, I can promote G Style Magazine when I’m on the go, since these headphones have become my main pair of headphones. You see in my last IT job I worked for an Advertising Agency, so I picked up a couple skills when it comes to marketing and branding. So I always applied what I learned from the people there to G Style

I arrived on January 6th a day before as I thought it might make sense to get our game plan set up before we attacked the show. Just the first day was crazy as we got lost trying to find the press area where we needed to pick up our press badge. We ended up walking all over the Las Vegas Convention Center, in area we don’t think we was suppose to be in to the back lot where the truck dropped off the materials. All this, only to realize that we had walked right back the location we needed to go. That itself was a adventure before the show even started lol.

During the entire show, there was tons to see, and sooooo much walking. People kept assuming that when they heard myself and Kyle were going to Vegas, that we would be partying every night, but that just didn’t happen lol. With all the walking about, and seeing the stuff, each night we was so tired, we both ended up just falling asleep. We even took naps during the day when we returned to our hotel to drop off stuff. Out of 6 nights there, we only managed to do something on 2 of those night and just barely at that!

Besides checking out all the cool gadgets, I got to meet some good people in person. Some of those included Nan Palmero, Jenae, Levar Burton, and a few others. It was cool getting to meet some of my peers int he industry that I talked to via Twitter. I must say Nan is a funny dude man! From cracking me up the It Won’t Stay in Vegas party, to jumping out the back of a Van to make the Blackberry party at the Hard Rock Cafe I think it was, Nan definitely keeps it fresh! lol

All in all, attending CES was a great experience and I look forward to doing it again next year. It was a definite good look for us at G Style Magazine to get our name our there and presence known to a wider set of people! Can’t wait for CES 2011.

But what a difference a year can make! Went from the Curve 8310, to the Blackberry Bold, and now I have the Blackberry Bold 9700! Also since then a whole new generation of Blackberry models have come up. You have the Bold 9700, the Tour, Storm 2, Curve 8900/8500. So it was time to do a new theme for this next generation of Blackberry devices. This time I talked to Tony of Cockyculture.com who was new to the scene and had a very fresh style that I liked. I provided him with the logo font and said give your spin on a G Style theme and he definitely hooked it up! Big shout out to Tony!

I wonder if I should try and make this a yearly thing, like each year refresh the theme for the new generation of Blackberry device! I think I like that idea. For now I’m totally loving this theme on my Blackberry 9700! If you want it, check out www.gstylemag.com now!

I mean to think back then, that by simply writing about the products I liked, loved, and lusted after, would mean I would get them from their makers sounds crazy. But this is exactly what I’m doing right now. Now I do make that seem easier than it is, but to me this is easy. It does take time, and you can’t give up on it.

This October G Style Magazine turns four. Four years of researching, photographing, and writing about consumer electronics. Four years of constantly sending emails to these companies directly and to their PR reps. Four years of calling them and repeating the same story about what G Style Magazine was, why we existed, and why they should let us review their products. It was not a easy road, but four years later, I’m still writing, G Style Magazine is still here, and now I’m not alone.

It started with just me, I wrote everything, edited the HTML files (our old format), made the calls, sent the emails, shook the hands. Now I still do a lot of that, but now it is 9 of us! Fellow gadget heads that saw what I was doing and wanted to be apart of it. I thank them very much for that! And this year we celebrate our 4th year in operation.

Some think money is the only measure of success and might be quick to ask, how much money you make off it. But if the value is only measured in money, you miss the bigger picture. G Style went from one person in staff to nine. We started off with only 500 people who visited on a good month to now 25,000+. We went from having companies give us that “we’ll put you on the waiting list” line for product review units, to “sure I would love to send you out a review unit!” These are measures of success! And yea as a gadget head, almost unlimited products to play with, some to keep, and etc is success!

If you build it, they will come. This couldn’t be more truer. I built G Style Magazine 4 years ago and it is still here today. Next year will be the first year that we attend CES, which is the Consumer Electronics Show, the biggest electronic show ever, and I can’t wait! Here’s to another 4 years and more!

I have known Jason (yup a Jason too lol) Kelley aka Troy Black for like forever. J Twinz lol. Back in the day we had a crew of like 13, 7 of us all rapped including yours truly. Back then & the very first domain I ever own was fam4life.com, our crew was Da FaM. We was suppose to do rapping, clothing and all that. That however never jumped off, and we went our separate ways business wise, but of course the love was always there. I went on to get involved with anything digital which began Versatile Media Group, G Style Magazine and more. Jason continued doing music.

Now it is time we group again! I won’t be rapping again, but I wanted to bring my talents to his company. You see Jason has a great voice, and his music is great! I feel he just needs some kind of push, some promotion and that is where the web as well as I come in. Let’s call this the Ryan Leslie project, as I have great respect for how he has used the web for music. So I decided to come on board to see what I can do to get the buzz out more about this man, his team, and his music!

So we are still finalizing thing but I will be coming on board to Sire Sound LLC as either CMO or VP of Digital Media. Websites, ways Sire Sound connect with our audience will be evolving! Wow self reflection is a hell of a thing, ain’t it. Today is April 5th and today I turn 29 years of age. 29 years of my life has gone by. Seems like only yesterday I was a freshmen in High School and turning 30 was this so far off future that it seemed unimaginable. But 29 today, you know they say or use to say that when you hit 30 you was over the hill or that life was over. Boy has time changed lol, not 30 is the new 20 so really I’m one year to 20 lol.

When you was 14, did you think or know where you’d be when you was one year to 30? When I was young, I remember thinking I was going to be a Truck Driver lol. Still want to drive one , if only to know what it would be like. At age 16/17 the internet changed everything. Ah the internet, back then this World Wide Web, that no one knew what it was or could be. I’ve been on the net since 97 when my family got it’s first "family computer". I took over it and though they used it, it was really mine lol. I’ve learned so much from it, and about it. Now look where the internet is today.

The dreams to be a Truck Driver faded and I got into electronics, I was going to be a electrician, until the internet. I got so much into computers, that I went to college for it. Which leads me to today. Where am I, did I envision this back at 14. Did I see that my 9-5 I would be an I.T. Technician for a living and on the side I would own and run 2 digital magazines that were doing well and growing? Did I know I would have a fairly successful Web Design & Hosting company? Or did I know I would be engaged & have a 2 year daughter? Not at all, but then how could any 14 year old see that then.

One year to 30, am I content with where I’m at? Not so much, I would love to devote my time to G Style and my Web business to see where it would take me, but can’t due to a greater need to be responsible. Maybe before I could of took that risk, but not now as I have more who depend on me now. Do I regret it? Nah I have a beautiful fiance and a lovely daughter. Did I see that at 14? Again how could I, lol I actually always thought I would have a son to keep my family name going lol but love my little girl explicitly!….Wow self reflection is a hell of a thing, ain’t it.

So today was the video shoot G Style Magazine. We was doing a round table discussion about the top 3 hot smartphones on the market right now. Those are the iPhone 3G, the Blackberry Bold, and the T-Mobile G1. All 3 are 3G devices and represent where we are at right now with mobile phone technology.

The iPhone runs OS X, Blackberry on it’s platform, and the G1 runs on Android. Anyway it is crazy cause I have been waiting forever to do this video. We had a earlier date, but had to push it back. So today is the day, then last night I started getting sick lol, go figure. We’ll see how the day goes.

Doing the video with me is Chuck Holliday who is the co-owner of G Style and Melissa Velazquez who is Editor in Chief of Mirror Image Magazine. The 3 of us have a great chemistry when we get together. We can talk about whatever and I’m hoping that flow will show well on video…

Now 7pm we finished the video. All went off without a hitch, except the first take we did when we played it back there was no sound lol, so we had to do a second take, which had sound. So now off to editing. Afterward we had lunch at Jackson Hole. Great place & best burger I’ve had in a while.
